Scary movie revival

Why are there so many supernatural horror/thrillers out in the theaters right now? We've already gotten Darkness, Alone in the Dark, Hide and Seek, and Boogeyman... and Cursed and The Ring 2 are coming soon.

I'm just waiting for A Scream from the Dark, The Ghostly Darkness, Hiding From the Boogeyman Alone in the Dark, and The Darkly Dark Darkness.

I love a good scare like most people, but I wonder who decided HORROR was the way to go, all year long....
